Further obituary for David M.

David Measham 1937-2005

It was with great sadness that we have to announce the death of David Measham, who passed away after a year long struggle with pancreatic cancer in Perth, Western Australia, last weekend (6th February).

David played an enormous role in the life of Rick's music, conducting the London Symphony Orchestra on Journey to the Centre of the Earth and also the New World Symphony Orchestra on the Myths and Legends of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table.

He toured America and Japan with Journey to the Centre of the Earth and apart from his wonderful musicianship and conducting skills was loved by all who worked with him.

He will be truly missed as he was genuinely a "one-off" in the way he approached music.

As recently as late last year, he and I were in contact as regards performing King Arthur as a 30th anniversary project and he was due to come to England to meet with me sometime in the coming weeks.

I will always have a lasting memory of David standing in front of the orchestra and English Chamber Choir in a man-made castle on the ice at Wembley, with a huge smile on his face, and coming over to me after the last notes of "The Last Battle" had died away and whispering in my ear... "This is what musical entertainment is all about".

Without David Measham, it would simply never have happened .

There will be more great music in Heaven now.
