AFTER SURFING ROUND THE MUNDELLA SITE I DECIDED TO TRY AND MAKE A LIST OF ALL THE PUPILS IN OUR YEAR . I HAD A NEWSPAPER CUTTING OF THE 'A' LEVEL RESULTS BUT NONE FOR THE 'O'LEVEL YEAR .I NOTICED OTHERS COULD REMEMBER NAMES AND THAT FOR STUDENTS IN FRONT AND BEHIND OUR YEAR THEY ALSO MENTIONED NAMES I COULD REMEMBER. I DID THIS FOR MY PRIMARY SCHOOL TOO AND I WOULD MAKE THESE COMMENTS-

I CAME FROM RADFORD AND IT APPEARS A LARGE PROPORTION OF PRIMARY SCHOOLKIDS ENDED UP OVERSEAS , MUCH HIGHER THAN FROM THE GRAMMAR SCHOOL .
LOTS OF THE GIRLS NAMES ARE MENTIONED BY BOYS 2/3 YEARS OLDER- I GUESS THATS LIFE, MY FIRST GIRLFRIEND WAS A FOURTH FORMER!!
I SUPPOSE THAT IF YOU TURNED OUT A CHILD MOLESTER , DID TIME OR DIDN'T GO TOO WELL, OR DIED YOU PROBABLY WOULDN'T PUT AN ENTRY ON THE SITE, SO ITS POSSIBLE THE SITE MAY NOT BE REPRESENTATIVE, BUT GOOD ON THOSE WHO JOINED DESPITE NOT HAVING A BRILLIANT CAREER OR WHO HAD SEVERAL MARRIAGES BECAUSE LIFE IS MANY FACETTED AND YOU'D BE REAL UNLUCKY TO MISS OUT ALL ROUND.
THE GOOD NEWS IS THERE SEEM TO BE LOTS OF HAPPY LONG LASTING MARRIAGES - I HOPE THAT IS NOT BECAUSE OF AN UNREPRESENTATIVE SAMPLE. THERE SEEM TO BE OTHERS WHO HAVE BEEN HAPPY NOT FOLLOWING THE CONVENTIONAL PATHWAYS WHICH IS ALSO GREAT.
I LISTED THESE NAMES ON A NUMBER OF BASES, SOME PEOPLE I CAN PUT A FACE TO, OTHERS I RECALL THE NAME ,AND OTHER NAMES BECAUSE OTHERS REMEMBER THEM EVEN THOUGH I HADN'T A CLUE WHO THE PEOPLE WERE!! FROM MEMORY I WAS IN 1L, 2 TO 5 UPPER AND IN 6LSCIENCE AND 6USCIENCE AND THE TEACHERS WERE 1L MRS LYNCH,2U MR HUNT,3U AND 5U MR SWEETLAND,4U THE GREAT SAM SNEYD, AND 6TH FORM WAS MR STAN BAGGOTT. I STILL HAVE THE OLD SCHOOL REPORTS

THIS IS MY ATTEPT AT TRYING TO JOG A FEW MEMORIES OUT FOR OTHERS FROM THAT YEAR.
I THINK THERE WERE FOUR CLASSES IN OUR YEAR WITH ABOUT 31 PER CLASS, THE FIRST YEAR THE CLASSES WERE LABELLED 1 FOLLOWED BY THE FORM TEACHERS SURNAME'S INITIAL LETTER, THEREAFTER IT WAS UPPER, LOWER, ALPHA AND BETA I THINK ,SO WE ARE LOOKING FOR ABOUT 120 NAMES PLUS THOSE WHO JOINED FROM ELSEWHERE FOR THE SIXTH FORM OR 'A' LEVEL CLASSES, AND I THINK BILL MORRELL ,MARIA KWOKA AND BAZ HARWOOD WHO CAME BACK TO DO A LEVEL - I ASSUME THEY HADN'T SAT OR PASSED OR GOT GOOD ENOUGH GRADES PREVIOUSLY.

THERE WERE FOUR HOUSES, HARDWICK-YELLOW, THORESBY-BLUE, WELBECK-
GREEN AND WOLLATON-RED.

I SEARCHED ALL ROUND THE SITE TO MAKE UP THIS LIST OF TEACHERS:

JUDITH AXTELL - WHAT A CLASSIC, AS SHE LITERALLY FLOUNCED INTO CLASS IN A FLOWING SKIRT AND SHORT BLOND HAIR. ALREADY A MATHS FAN WHAT MORE COULD A BOY WANT - A TAD BETTER THAN DOLLY ONIONS.SHE HAD A CLASSICLY SEDUCTIVE SWING OF THE HIPS WHICH WAS EXAGGERATED WHEN SHE CARRIED A HEAVY LOAD OF BOOKS ON ONE SIDE.ONE BOY RECALLS SHE HAD A RED SPITFIRE - I ASK YOU , WHO CARED?
DORIS BARLOW?
MR BATES - ENG/FRENCH?- A SOMEWHAT UNFORTUNATE NAME BUT BEING NAIVE I KNEW NOTHING OF SUCH THINGS.
STAN BAGGOTT - A GOOD MATHS TEACHER.
MR COOK (PE)- WAS IT HE WHO INTRODUCED US IN THAT FIRST YEAR TO RUGBY AFTER RR STEVENS BANNED FOOTBALL? NEVER TOOK TO THE GAME ESPECIALLY AS FINCHY ENDED UP WITH A BROKEN ANKLE IN HIS FIRST COLLAPSING SCRUM- DID CROSS COUNTRY INSTEAD TIL FOOTY CAME BACK IN YEAR 2.I WELL REMEMBER MICK WALKERS CROSS COUNTRY COURSE,UP TO CLIFTON BRIDGE ,ACROSS TO WILFORD HILL AND BACK , A GRUELLING EXPERIENCE ESPECIALLY IN WINTER AND JIMBO WON EVERY ONE!CHARACTER BUILDING AS YOU MADE YOURSELF DO WHAT YOUR BODY DID NOT WANT TO.
MISS CROSSLEY?
DADDY DAYKIN(ENG)
MR GIBBBS-WOODWORK
JOHN GAROFALL-ENGLISH
MR GREENSMITH?
MISS GREENWOOD /MRS MARRIOT.?
JOE HALLAM-MUSIC WHAT A CHANGE FROM TILLY, I THINK -INTRODUCED MODERN (??)MUSIC TOO US.
MR BOB HAWKESWORTH-CHEMISTRY-ONE STUDENT TELLS OF HIM UNDRESSING A GIRL IN THE CHEMISTRY LAB-NOT WHAT YOU MAY THINK-I RECALL HOLMESEY DROPPING SOME BOILING ACID ON,I THINK, LIZ CRAGG AND HER NYLONS BECOMING A MASS OF BLACK TARRY GOO!
R.N HOARD -MATHS AND ONE OF MY FAVOURITES , A BOYS MAN SMELLING OF TOBACCO AND MAYBE BEER - REMINDED ME OF MY DAD WHO WAS ALSO IN THE NAVY BUT NEVER SPOKE TOO MUCH ABOUT IT EXCEPT THAT IT A SHOCKING WASTE AND TOTALLY DISORGANISED. BUT RN MADE IT SOUND EXCITING WITH TALES OF DEGAUSSING SHIPS. A MAN OF IMPRESSIVE DEMEANOUR AND BEARING WHO SWEPT INTO CLASS IN A BLACK GOWN(YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN!!)
MR HOLBROOK -WHAT A TEACHER OF LATIN -DESPITE ME INITIALLY THINKING IT A COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME HOLBROOK TAUGHT IT WITH A PASSION AND HUMOUR THAT JUST SUCKED YOU IN.ONE OF MY PLEASURES IS ,WHEN IN THE HALLS OF POWER, AMONGST THOSE WHO THINK THEY ARE BETTER THAN THIS HEAVILY ACCENTED WORKING CLASS POMMIE UPSTART THEN JUST QUOTE SOME OF THAT MAGNIFICENT LANGUAGE AND WATCH THE JAWS DROP!!THANKS HOLLY WHEREVER YOU ARE-FORTIBUSES IN A ROW AND ALL THAT!!
MR HOWE-BIO, AND MRS HOUSEMAN(DEP. HEAD?)-WERE THEY AN ITEM?THANKS HOWIE FOR THE SEX EDUCATION ,THATS HOW FROGS DO IT AND WE'RE MUCH THE SAME!!(QUOTE)
MR HUNT -HIST A GOOD TEACHER I SEEM TO RECALL
GEORGE HUNTER-PE?
MR ALAN JACOBS-ENGLISH- AN IMPOSING MAN.
MR JONES-ENGLISH.
MR LARSON-PHYSICS.
MR LIGHTBOWN - ANOTHER BEER ,SMOKES MAN-NO WARNING LABELS IN THOSE DAYS!!GOOD FOOTY MAN -PE
MISS LINCOLN -ATTRACTIVE? BUT WHAT DID SHE TEACH?
MRS LYNCH - MY FIRST FORM TEACHER AT MUNDELLA .SHE TOOK A SPECIAL INTEREST IN ME AS MY PARENTS WENT THRU A BAD TIME AND SHE WORRIED I'D BE AFFECTED - I COULDN'T SEE WHAT THE FUSS WAS ABOUT AND FINISHED SECOND IN CLASS!!
MRS LYONS (DOM SCI)
THE LEGENDARY DOLLY ONIONS - SEE ALL THE COMMENTS ON THE SITE BUT FOR THOSE WHO LOVED MATHS WHO CARED.SHE NEVER SEEMED TO KNOW HOW MUCH SHE WAS HATED AND LAUGHED AT BUT SHE WAS PRETTY HARSH ON THOSE WHO REALLY NEEDED HELP.SEE WENDY PASSMORES ENTRY - I WAS THERE WHEN DOLLY THREW THE BOARD ERASER AT HER ALTHOUGH IT APPEARS FROM OTHERS SHE MADE A HABIT OF IT.
MR ORMSTON-FRENCH
MRS NICHOLSON(PE) WAS SHE THE ONE WITH MUSCULAR LEGS - I REALLY CAN'T REMEMBER.
MR MITCHELL-RK.
MR ROBINSON - HISTORY- ANOTHER BEGOWNED MAN OF BEARING AND AUTHORITY.
(SORRY BUT I WAS AT SCHOOL TO LEARN AND ESCAPE POVERTY SO I LISTENED INTENTLY TO THESE TALL PEOPLE WITH AUTHORITIVE VOICES - IT WASN'T UNTIL MUCH LATER I LEARNED SOME PEPLE OF SUCH MAGNIFICENT PRESENCE COULD IN FACT BE TALKING COBBLERS!ALTHOUGH I WELL REMEMBER TONY PILKINGTON POINTING THIS OUT ONCE TO SWEETLAND IN THE ONLY TIME I EVER HEARD TONY SAY ANYTHING IN CLASS!
MR ROBERTS - FRENCH?
PETER OR PHIL SMITH - GREAT YOUNG CHEMISTRY TEACHER.
MR SEABROOK-GERMAN-SECOND YEAR ONLY, HAD A CREWCUT AND NOT PRETTY TO LOOK AT MAN BUT WHO CARED.HERE TO LEARN REMEMBER.
MR SOUTHGATE? LOTS OF OTHERS RECALL HIM BUT NOT ME.
MR STILL - CAN PICTURE HIM BUT THATS ALL, R.I. MAYBE?
MR SWEETLAND - ANOTHER TALL BEGOWNED ONE - HOW EASILY WAS I IMPRESSED BUT HE GOT ME THROUGH ENG LIT, MY WORST SUBJECT.
SAM SNEYD-MY FAVOURITE TEACHER BY A STREET. NEITHER TALL OR OLD BUT BEGOWNED OCCASSIONALLY,TAUGHT PHYSICS AND HAD A WICKEDLY SARCASTIC SENSE OF HUMOUR, ESPECIALLY FOR FOOLS- HOPE I TOOK AFTER HIM - CYNICISM GETS YOU THR0UGH LIFE AND KEEPS BULLSHITERS AT BAY.NO WONDER IT WAS 'A' AT A LEVEL FOR PHYSICS-CONSTANT STRUGGLES AND BANTER WITH HIM OVER MY WEARING A BLACK T SHIRT (NO RULES ABOUT THAT)UNDER THE UNBUTTONED COLLAR AND WEARING A CORRECTLY COLOURED BUT WRONG WIDTH STRIPED TIE WHICH COULD ONLY BE PICKED IF YOU GOT CLOSE- MY ONLY ATTEMPT AT NON-CONFORMITY AND REBELLION. GAVE ME MY EQUAL TOP ACADEMIC HIGHLIGHT OF ASKING ME TO SIT FOR THE ENTRANCE EXAM FOR CAMBRIDGE WHICH I DECLINED AS THEY DIDN'T DO MINING ENGINEERING BUT PROBABLY EQUALLY BECAUSE IT WAS TOO MUCH LIKE HARD WORK AND THERE WERE OTHER THINGS IN LIFE - LIKE GIRLS! DON'T THINK IT HELD ME BACK ,MY ACCENT WOULD PROBABLY HAVE DONE SO.
THE OTHER ACADEMIC HIGHLIGHT WAS COMING FIRST IN MY FIRST YEAR AT THE ROYAL SCHOOL OF MINES AT IMPERIAL COLLEGE AND WINNING A 75 POUND PA SCHOLARSHIP. MY PROF WAS LESS THAN PLEASED WHEN I SUPPOSEDLY THEN WENT INTO CRUISE MODE(RELATIVELY SPEAKING AS YOU HAD TO BE LIVE LIKE A HERMIT TO GET THROUGH THE FIRST YEAR AS THEY SORTED THE SHIRKERS OUT) TO FINISH FOURTH AT THE END, THERE BEING NO OTHER SCHOLARSHIPS FOR THE LATER YEARS, AND BY THAT TIME GIRLS WERE MUCH MORE IMPORTANT.

MR TODD - FRENCH - NOT MENTIONED BY ANY OTHERS BUT I HAVE GOOD REASON TO REMEMBER HIM .WHAT CAN I SAY,TALL, DARK ,HANDSOME, BEGOWNED AND AUTORITIVE.MY IDEA OF A LADIES MAN! ALWAYS ONTO ME , STRIKING MY HAND WITH THE RULER ABOUT THE LACK OF A RULED MARGIN -NO COMMENTS ON MY FRENCH ABILITY AND WOULD ALWAYS THEN MOVE ON TO JANICE HOLMES AT THE NEXT DESK AND EXCHANGE PLEASANTRIES WITH HER WHILST MY HAND BURNED. HE DID HOWEVER GIVE ME ONE COMMENT I OFTEN USE WHENEVER I'M ASKED HOW I LIKE MY TEA OR COFFEE. HIS LINE WAS 'I LIKE MY COFFEE LIKE I LIKE MY WOMEN - HOT AND BLACK!!!IN THE MORE REFINED COMPANY I SOMETIMES KEEP 'LIKE I LIKE MY WOMEN-WEAK (OR SWEET) AND WHITE ' WORKS EQUALLY WELL.IMAGINE MY HORROR WHEN TONY FINCH TOLD ME YEARS AGO HE WAS A POOFTER!!! AND HE GAVE ME ONE OF MY BEST LINES!!
PHIL TOWERS - CHEM?
TILLY TOWNSEND - GEOGRAPHY? AND ART/MUSIC? MERCILESS ON ONE GIRL WHO GOT 0% IN AN EXAM AND SHE TOLD THE WHOLE CLASS THE ONLY ANSWER THE POOR WRETCH GOT CLOSE WITH WAS IN NAMING THE COALFIELDS AND THE POOR GIRL PUT SUTTON COALFIELD WHICH AS EVERYONE KNEW WAS SUTTON COLDFIELD WHICH WAS WHERE THE TV WAS BROADCAST FROM AND AT THE END OF THE NIGHT ,SAY 11.00 TO 11.30, THE TV CLOSED WITH "AND THIS IS THE SUTTON COLDFIELD TRANSMITTER SHUTTING DOWN FOR THE NIGHT, A GOOD EVENING TO YOU ALL.
MICK WALKER LEGENDARY FOOTY COACH WHO WENT ON TO GREATER THINGS.
MR WOODS-HISTORY.
CHALKY WHITE-MATHS?
MRS WINFIELD?
REVEREND WHEY -RI OR RK OBVIOUSLY, I NEVER TOLD HIM I WENT TO CHURCH YOUTH CLUBS BECAUSE THEY HAD NICE GIRLS ATTEND

THATS A TOTAL OF 43 TEACHERS!!!!

AND WHAT OF HEAD TEACHERS?
R.R.STEVENS -BANNED FOOTBALL BUT LUCKILY IT CAME BACK IN YEAR 2.
HE MUST HAVE SPOKEN TO ALL KIDS AT YEAR END AS MY ONLY MEMORY IS OF HIM SAYING HE SHOULD CANE FOR TWO PENCE FOR LACK OF EFFORT-YEAH,SURE,I CAME SECOND TO "PROF"ROGER PERRY-THE MAN LOST ALL CREDIBILITY.
N.MOODY-NEVER RECKONED THE MAN-MAYBE I WAS BRAINWASHED BY THE THOUGHTS OF OTHERS THAT HE CAME FROM A REDBRICK UNI (READING I THINK)AND THAT ACADEMICALLY THESE WERE IN SOME WAY INFERIOR TO THE OTHERS.THEN AGAIN I NEVER DID LIKE THE SOFT OPTION ARTS SIDE,BUT NOW I,VE MELLOWED SOME WHAT,SAVE MY DISDAIN FOR THE SOCIALIST DO-GOODERS OR CRIMINAL LIBERTARIANS AS WE CALL THEM.YOU MAY GUESS I LIE SLIGHTLY TO THE RIGHT OF ATTILLA THE HUN AND GHENGIS KHAN POLITICALLY!
MY ABIDING MEMORY OF HIM,AND MY MOTHER THOUGHT HE WAS GOD,WAS ON FINAL SPEECH NIGHT WHEN AWARDING ME SOME PRIZE OR OTHER WAS HIS COMMENT THAT I HAD CHOSEN AN UNUSUAL CAREER!I WAS AFFROTED AS I'D WORKED OUT I'D BE ABLE TO TRAVEL THE WORLD AND MAKE LOTS OF MONEY AND I THOUGHT THAT SHOULD BE EVERYONES AIM IN LIFE!
I REMEMBER RECALLING HIS COMMENTS SOME YEARS AGO WHEN I GOT INSTALLED IN A NEW JOB,WORKING FOR AN OIL COMPANY ON THE TOP FLOOR OF AN OFFICE TOWER WITH THE OFFICE OVERLOOKING SYDNEY HARBOUR. THE JOB?-LOOKING TO FIND OR BUY COAL MINES IN THE PACIFIC BASIN-HAD I ARRIVED OR WHAT?-JETTING TO JAPAN FOR BOARD MEETINGS,AROUND THE GLOBE SOUCING MASSIVE EQUIPMENT -STRANGE CHOICE INDEED!
I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO HAVE DAD AND MAM VISIT ME IN MY OFFICE SO THEY COULD SEE WHAT THEIR SACRIFICES HAD MADE POSSIBLE.MY FRIENDS TELL A STORY ABOUT MY FATHER THAT RECALLS HIS STATEMENT THAT SYDNEY AIRPORT DEPARTURE LOUNGE SHOULD HAVE A SMALL ROOM WITH A PSYCHIATRIST FOR ALL THOSE STUPID ENOUGH TO WANT TO LEAVE THE PLACE.

THATS ALL FOR THE TEACHERS, HOPE YOU ENJOYED IT. IF I MADE ANY MISTAKES LET ME KNOW AS I WILL PROBABLY PUT THIS ON THE SITE. MY MEMORY IS NOT PERFECT AND SOME OF THE ABOVE MAY BE COLOURED BY WISHFUL THINKING BUT, HEY, THEY ARE GREAT MEMORIES.

Amazing! Are we all real dumbos or is it just me? I posted a message in September last year but didn't check for responses until........ (oh shit)...... August this year! Am I ashamed or what!

The only ones I've heard from are my old buddies Acko and Bruce Stevenson.

I well remember Jenny Hendry, worshipped her from afar....... even have a photo in Derbyshire on a school trip somewhere in the album. Lovely lady!

Would love to hear from anyone and/or everyone associated with Mundella, hence the email address of

mundellan@ntlworld.com.

Hi, Frank. good to know you remember me! I'd love to come to one of your sessions sometime but living in Sheffield and working away quite a bit makes it a little difficult. Glad to hear Paul is still alive and kicking. What are you and he doiung workwise that meant you were working with him up to a few weeks ago? Who else are you in touch with? Where do you play on Wednesdays (just incase i can be in town!)

I bumped into an old Mundellan yesterday uptown and that stirred me to sign on and check this site and hey presto! up pops the definitely not forgettable Sue Fletcher straight out of my old form! Well Sue, you really were in the same year as "Acko" et al, Paul Smith is alive and well (I was working with him up to a few week's ago), and Jenny Hendry is after coming and jammin' with the band sometime (which you're welcome to do any Wednesday Jenny if you're reading this). Nice to hear you're all alive an' kickin'!

Does this mean we were in the same year? I was pretty forgettable so don't feel bad if you can't remember me!
