I seem to recall reading an account of the expedition many years ago, which said the dogs were intended to be eaten when the explorers got to the point where conventional food started to get scarce. Bet the children weren't told that bit!

Yes, this is true. A letter of thanks from Scott and photograph were displayed in the School office foyer for many years.

Someone has recently told me that Capt Scott had a dog named Mudella due to the fact that children of the school saved their hard earned pocket money and bought the dog. Does anyone know if this is true?
